The Portage Terriers were looking for a sweep of the two game set as they headed into Saturday nights match with the OCN Blizzard in The Pas.  The Blizzard got on the board first just under 11 minutes into the game before Luke MacInnis scored at 14:18 to pull the Dogs even.  Stephane Pattyn picked up the only assist on MacInnis's fourth goal of the season.  OCN answered back less than 3 minutes later to take a 2-1 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes.  Thunder Bay native Andrew Wiebe pulled the Terriers even as he scored unassisted 5:54 into the middle frame for his fourth goal of the year.  A second Thunder Bay product put the Terriers up 3-2 at the 9:09 mark as Justin Minoletti scored his third of the campaign on the power play.  Tyler Moore and Ryan Audino picked up assists on the goal that gave the visitors the lead through 40 minutes.  It took until the 16:47 mark of the third period before the Blizzard were once again able to light the red lamp and pull themselves into a 3-3 tie.  Then with just 43 seconds remaining in regulation time, OCN was able to tuck home the game winner to knot the two game weekend series at a win apiece.  A Blizzard empty netter with a second remaining made the final 5-3 for the home side.  The win leap frogs the Blizzard one point ahead of the Terriers who now sit in fourth place in the Sher-Wood Division with 32 points.  Next up for Portage is a trip to Motor City next Wednesday night where they'll do battle with the first year Pistons.  Join Jeff Dyck on CFRY radio for all the play by play action beginning at 8:00 pm.  Online streaming of the contest is also available by clicking the Portage Terriers LIVE  icon found at the bottom right corner of this page.

The Tradition Continues

Three goals in a 116 second span midway through the third period blew a close game wide open, as the Portage Terriers picked up a 4-1 win over the OCN Blizzard in the opening game of a week-end doubleheader in The Pas.  The game went scoreless through the opening 34 minutes as goaltenders made save after save to steal the show.  Portage got on the board first at the 14:16 mark of the middle frame as Shaq Mersaty scored shorthanded, with Zach Tully and Kajon McKay picking up assists.  The Blizzard answered back less than two minutes later to send the teams to their respective locker rooms through forty minutes deadlocked at a goal apiece.  Tanner Waldvogel potted his 9th of the campaign 5:38 into the third period with Tyler Moore and Jared Whincup picking up an assist each.  Waldvogel made it quite the shift as he scored his second of the night 45 seconds later with the lone assist handed out to rearguard Justin Minoletti.  Just 1:11 later, Merasty would find twine for his second of the night, this time unassisted.  Mersaty's two goals on the night give him 15 on the year to lead the team in that department.  Quickly becoming a fan favorite, Merasty has Portage believing that they in fact have the real Shaq of the sporting world.  Jason Kasdorf blocked 28 of the 29 shots that he faced as he improved his personal record to 8-5-0-1.  With the win the Dogs improved to 14-7-1-3 good for 32 points and a third place standing in the tough Sher-Wood Division.  They currently trail second place Swan Valley by four points and now sit one point up on the fourth place Blizzard.
